The Silviculture Academy (CIC) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to educating the future of forestry and silviculture. At the heart of the organisation is a passion for the advancement of learning and skills in the forestry and forest conservation sectors. They design, develop and deliver a range of short courses, e-learning packages and micro-credentials in forestry, with a focus on the science and practice of silviculture. The courses are tailored to both new entrants and professionals already in the sector and you can often spot Professor Edward (Ted) Wilson MSIF FRSB, Principal of the Silviculture Academy and Silviculturist delivering these courses and training opportunities. The Silviculture Academy is committed to the ethos timber can be harvested while also preserving the forest ecosystem at the same time.

While conducting a research project at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside titled “Super-sizing Broadleaves” we spoke to Ted about his career journey and motivations and the wonderful world of forestry and silviculture. Ted highlighted his passion for the outdoors and his ability to follow this passion to develop an amazing career centred around what he enjoys. Ted also highlighted how LANSS has helped to facilitate connections between people and stakeholders in the land and nature based industries, leading to passionate people finding amazing opportunities, including his very own lab assistant finding her role with this research project.
