The hydromorphology for river restoration (Level 2) will build on the Introduction to Hydromorphology course and provide more in-depth knowledge of hydromorphological driver/process/form/pressure interaction and how they apply to river restoration. Participants will be introduced to detailed hydromorphological concepts such as river types, sediment transport and channel adjustment using evidence taken from the literature and interactive break-out sessions. The relevance of these concepts to river restoration planning and delivery will be discussed and participants will work in groups to apply their knowledge to a case study. Please note there is no site visit for this course.
We have developed this course to hold as a hybrid learning course, with material uploaded to an online learning platform for delegates to work through in their own time over a 4-week period. There will be two compulsory discussion sessions online for all attendees on the course to join and discuss the material.
Water + Catchments
January 15 - February 12, 2025
River systems globally have been impacted by various human pressures, including dredging, channel straightening and the construction of instream infrastructure (e.g. dams, weirs). Such stressors have severe consequences for river ecosystems and the services they provide to society. In response to…
Water + Catchments
February 25 - March 25, 2025
Erosion is a natural process in all river systems. This one-day course will provide an introduction into: the types and drivers of river bed and bank erosion; the techniques for monitoring erosion, and approaches to manage and control erosion in different settings. The course is open to all with an…
Water + Catchments
January - February 11, 2024
The Advanced Hydromorphology (Level 3) course builds on and applies the concepts introduced in the Hydromorphology Level 1 and Level 2 courses. This is an interactive course which involves a detailed hands-on application of basic sediment transport equations and flow regime equations. These will be…
Water + Catchments
