An introduction to lichens at Higham: we will look at what lichens are; how they “work”; and how we try to identify them. We will consider their ecology and the stories they can tell us about landscape and environmental history. Using specimens from Higham we will work through the keys for lichens commonly found on trees and also begin to look at lichens found on stones (and maybe other substrates too).
