A full-day training course focusing on CHEGD fungi ID aimed at improving surveying skills across Cumbria. Open to all in Cumbria with some prior experience of fungi surveying AND an interest in carrying out grassland fungi surveys in the future. While most of the session will be indoors (do bring a notebook), we're hoping to be able to visit a site to practice ID in the field. Please bring clothing suitable for Cumbria in October. A smart phone would be very useful as we will be using an app to aid field ID.
Some ancient grasslands can be identified by their plant communities but for others we rely on a selective group of fungi largely restricted to long standing and undisturbed grasslands. These are known as the CHEGD fungi, each letter representing a different genera or group of fungi.
